Aaaagagagaga SoHo is such a nightmare, even on a weekday afternoon. When the pavements are full of slow-moving out-of-town foot-traffic, the thing to do is come home to read Le Rouge et le Noir on the sofa while the subway rumbles underneath. And because this is a good Chinese household, the happy accompaniments are a pot of chrysanthemum jasmine tea and a couple of slices of durian cake.

Well, thanks to Da Feast there's a decidedly stupider-than-usual grade of tourist mobbing the area, which even on a good day a friend of mine used to refer to as "the Sea of Clowns."
Dude! I could start reading The Red and the Black in English, and we could have a readalong! I've been meaning to read that for years.
No Durian cake here, though; just a bar of Lindt bittersweet. Thank god.
Funny thing about the sea of clowns, no, I wasn't stuck behind a bunch of clowns, but for a bit I was behind these blond girls in tight pants, and one of them was saying to another, "...and I got these great jeans and they were half off so they were like twenty-eight dollars and they're so great I mean they're so cute they've got like butterflies and ties and oh they're so cute..."
Number (b) is, Yes, please, start reading the Stendahl. It is the biggest book in the world, and I have to finish it in a couple of weeks.
Number (3) is, you are lucky with the chocolate. I am sooo hungry and dinner isn't for three hours. I think I need a slice of honey wholewheat toast with some Australian meadow honey and gruyère. Mmmm.
